Here’s to a great 2025

A few weeks back, I posted that Klaros was looking to hire an experienced bank regulatory attorney. I’m pleased to report that we’ve had a ton of interest, not just a lot of applications, but a lot of impressive applicants. To see truly accomplished professionals express interest in leaving important roles to join our little team is incredibly gratifying.

It’s been five short years since we launched Klaros. I’d like to be able to say it’s all gone according to plan, but the truth is that we’ve had twists and turns like pretty much every startup. But the thing that’s been true throughout is our commitment to solving the problems whose solutions are essential to innovation in financial services. What are the risks? What does prudent risk management look like? How can you build regulatory confidence in new solutions?

Five years of focusing on these questions every day, five years of believing, passionately, in the importance of finding practical solutions, have brought us to a terrific place. On so many of the dimensions that matter - our clientele, the kinds of problems we get to work on, the quality and commitment of our wonderful team - Klaros is batting a thousand.

2024 was an eventful year for Klaros. We began building some interesting and rich data sets. (If you’ve seen any of the charts and graphs we’ve posted on LinkedIn, you’ve glimpsed the tip of the iceberg.) We launched a small but growing investment business, and a newsletter (sign up here, if you haven’t already). We entered into our first partnership with a technology firm. Most importantly, though, we kept doing the work that we’re passionate about: working with the most innovative companies in finance to build the future of financial services.

It’s hard to say at this point what 2025 will bring. Some folks in the industry are predicting dramatic changes. Me, I’m not so sure. I’ve seen a lot of administrations come and go, and the changes in regulatory behavior that I’ve seen have more often been - absent a financial crisis - incremental and gradual than sudden and fundamental. Regardless of what the future holds, I  am deeply grateful to the Klaros team for their commitment to doing great client work and to all of our clients for putting their trust in us. The team and I wish you a wonderful new year.
