Adam Shapiro focuses on payments, digital assets, fintech, sponsor banks, & BSA/AML.

 

Adam is a leading expert on financial innovation, with a particular focus on helping clients find solutions that meet their business objectives while maintaining strong regulatory compliance and risk management. Adam has a track record of helping clients successfully achieve difficult goals, such as gaining bank charters with non-traditional business models and scaling cryptocurrency businesses in the face of regulatory uncertainty. Adam was previously Head of Strategy and Chief Control Officer for BBVA's Open Platform, where he played a key role in the design and launch of ground-breaking Banking as a Service platforms in the U.S. and Spain. Previously, Adam built and led Promontory Financial Group’s fintech practice, working with cryptocurrency firms, online payments companies, innovative lenders, banks and traditional firms implementing new financial technologies, as well as technology service providers to the financial services industry. Prior to joining Promontory, Adam served at the U.K. Financial Services Authority, where among other roles he led the Retail Risk Team, developed the FSA’s Treating Customers Fairly and Product Risk Framework initiatives, was Private Secretary to the Chairman, and developed U.K. policy on hedge funds.

 

Adam holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University.
